A new research article by the Pliotas group has been published in the journal Structure. In the study entitled “Pocket delipidation induced by membrane tension or modification leads to a structurally analogous mechanosensitive channel state” we implemented pulsed EPR (3pESEEM) and HDX mass spectrometry solvent accessibility measurements on the mechanosensitive channel MscL along with molecular dynamic simulations under membrane tension. We identified a structural link between tension activated and molecularly derived states in MscL. These new findings hint at at synergistic modes of regulation by lipid molecules in mechanosensitive channels.
